Why is link velocity important?

Google knows when you get new backlinks pointing to you website, that is their job!

Now if for example you have a website that is getting more backlinks each month – 25 backlinks the first month, 50 backlinks the next month, 75 backlinks the month after – It shows Google that your website is getting more popular at a steady rate. This is what they want to see.

If on the other hand you get 75 backlinks the first month and 0 the next month or two, Google will know that your site had a one time spike of popularity.
